Wow, 22 euros wasted on an online movie! In any case, with a cinema ticket you still have great sound and a mega-large image. Well my friend wanted to watch it NOW.

I've never seen the original so I don't have a comparison or prior knowledge.

Little Mulan is a very cute girl and I really liked. I was less charmed by Big Mulan.

The story didn't grab me and seemed mostly unreal to me.

The huge colorful decors bothered me and really turned it into a kind of fairytale. Perhaps the intention and the film was mainly made as a children's film, I didn't like it.

Completely matte filming. The decoration is okay and I wasn't really bored, but this was a piece of very safe cinema, with the Chinese family values propagating for minutes at the end. Good example of that matte? Mulan's womanhood becomes apparent about 2/3 of the way through the film, then she is banned. Three minutes later she is back with a message and she is immediately taken in again. No conflict or any suspense whatsoever. And that feeling continues throughout the film. Acting is also not overwhelming by keeping this in English with an accent. Many actors are visibly struggling with this. 2.5*.

Watched this film adaptation and it is more action oriented than the animated film. The action was well done and looked good. There are quite a few references to the cartoon, although they are sometimes quite subtle. The cast did well.

Not a one-on-one film adaptation, but broadly the same story. Thought it was worth seeing.
