Anthony Hawthorne is a modern American young man who causes a stir in Monte Carlo when he wins big money at the casino. Vladimir, a prince from a small principality whose ruler he wishes to overthrow, hears of Hawthorne's gain and tries to convince him to use the money to bribe the principality's army. Hawthorne is interested in this plan, but changes his mind when he meets the said ruler's daughter.
