Truck driver Tschak (Götz Otto) is completely grounded in both his family and financial life. His ex-wife Barbara (Susanne Schäfer) has banned him from all contact with his son, he is broke and his truck has been impounded. Because he still wants to make a trip to Italy with his son, he steals back his truck and takes it with him without permission. As Barbara launches a search, father and son bond over the journey.
