“Seth, that's some of the better acting than I've seen in your last six movies. Where the fuck was that in Green Hornet?”

Nice comedy that starts very strong but after 45 minutes is very often repeated and after that has few really funny moments anymore. This Is the End brings together a group of actors who are friends in normal life and it shows. It all feels very familiar and the inside jokes are very funny at the beginning.

Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, James Franco etc. are obviously having the most fun and the first part introducing all the characters (playing themselves) in Franco's house is hilarious and you hope the movie can maintain this level . When the aliens attack Earth (or in this case Los Angeles) some familiar faces come to an amazing end (Cera, Rihanna) and the attack looks very strong. But once Rogen, Baruchel, Hill, Franco, McBride and Robinson take shelter in Franco's house, things get very childish and most of the jokes kill. A parody of the exorcist is the low point. Although Channing Tatum's cameo isn't far off. In the last part, directors Evan Goldberg and Rogen come with a moralistic message, but it doesn't really fit in the film. The last part in heaven is great and ensures that This Is the End doesn't go out like a candle.

I can still remember how overwhelmed I was when I saw Knocked up: started without any expectations, completely ignorant of the makers beforehand, almost euphoric afterwards because of the often improvised humor, the shameless dialogues, the unabashed celebration of the slackers lifestyle and above all the ease with which characters that were just not over-the-top-caricatured were portrayed so lifelike. Many years and countless films with all those actors later, I'm fed up with it by now: again that preoccupation with weed, shit, sex and pop culture, again that gross-out humor ( Seth Rogen trying to pee in his own mouth due to lack of water), those riffing dialogues again (Danny McBride seeing how many jokes he can squeeze out of squirting James Franco's house), again those characters who basically play a variant of themselves over and over again – even as an alien, Seth Rogen was more Seth Rogen than Paul. In terms of plot, this film doesn't really progress after the first half hour, the apocalyptic scenes I don't find as impressive as other users here, and from the moment they leave James Franco's house the film really moves towards the end. Very funny at times, but as a whole a deadly exhausting experience.

Not my first choice. But have a look. Reminded me of "The Hangover" movies. So if you like it then you should take this one too.
