The Girl Who Ran Wild plot

M'liss, raised in the mountains, becomes an orphan and is offered protection by Calaveras John and Johnny Cake, friends of her father's murderer. She shows no interest in anything until the new schoolmaster convinces her to pull herself together and get an education. Believing that the schoolmaster is in love with another girl, M'liss decides to run away with another man. The schoolmaster eventually fights his rival to convince her of his sincerity in wanting her to stay.
