State Police plot

The son of Colonel Clarke, Chief of the State Police, is expelled from school and the Colonel gets him a job by assigning him under the name "Smith" to Sergeant Dan Prescott's patrol. Smith disobeys the sergeant's orders and even tries to steal his girlfriend. During the closure of several unprofitable coal mines, Prescott is ordered to arrest 'Trigger' Magee for the murder of Albert Morgan, who got in the way of Magee's gang. Smith, meanwhile, resigns and joins Magee's gang. A gang member has tricked Magee and Magee kills him. Magee is arrested, but manages to escape and takes Smith as his prisoner. Magee tries to force Smith to call his father to stop hunting him.
