When a war film borrows from mediocre war films like Enemy at the Gates and Pearl Harbor, you already know that it won't be too much. The special effects look like a cheap TV movie and the story is as sentimental as can be. Yet it also has its charm somehow because it looks like such a real exciting boy's film. The little boy in me yearns for a film that worthy of portraying the beauty of the first airmen during the First World War.

Fun, imaginative adventure film against the backdrop of WWI. Great looking that way. Based on true events suggests a more historically accurate film, but there is really too much of it. 3*

Yes gosh...a print that is made up of clichés and clichéd characters. The angry yet adventurous Americans, the cruel and mean Germans, phew, except for that one gentleman....

Also predictable, little depth, a bit of puppy love and a downright ridiculous rescue of the pilot who has crashed in no man's land. Have to say the terrain, the trenches and the soldiers there look good, if they had paid just as much attention to scenes and realism throughout the film it would have been more than now. In addition, the Germans all seem to fly with the DR1, Fokker's famous three-decker. But this device did not come into use until well into 1917, when it initially turned out to be a difficult device to handle and certainly not as superior as it appears in the film. In addition, the Lafayette squadron had been present in France for a long time, fighting against other German biplanes including the Albatross. In addition, it is colder to paint every German aircraft red. If that had been the case, would the legend of Manfred Richthoffen have existed? The Red Baron? Well...no...so yes, that's typically thought up by such a moron who has also heard something but doesn't know what the truth is.

Whipped shit, too bad for such a story where a lot more could have been done, same story by the way with Der Rote Baron, air battles are sometimes beautiful but often also over the top, same with the special effects, sometimes beautiful, usually the goal passing by. Incidentally, a slight goosebumps moment when Henderson plunges into the zeppelin.
