Francis Drake is very popular with Queen Elizabeth, with whom he has a clandestine romance. He succeeds in making numerous conquests in the newly discovered land of South America. He is knighted by the Queen for his deeds at sea. Out of gratitude he 'overcomes' the Spanish Armada.
