Barbecue huh................ How do you like you're ribs...............

Another classy quote that you can only find in these 80's action movies.

Hundreds of movies were made in the 1980s. There are many bad ones, but also many great ones. What to say about this one, it's not that bad at all. Carl Weathers is the tough Action Jackson and is deservedly a hero. Not a special movie, but cool to watch. The action scenes are slightly hard and entertaining, not great but can get by. Just for viewing pleasure, this film gets a 3.5 from me.

Nice film about a police officer who is no longer allowed to go out on the street because of a problem. A typical 80s action movie including a matching soundtrack. A lousy story and the characters are not much. Nice bad one-liners and more than enough explosions. You can't call the film good, but entertaining enough for a small 3.0 stars.

Action Jackson is the active hitchhiker of actor Carl Weathers. His breakthrough came in 1976 with the role of Apollo Creed in the film Rocky. A role that he would play three more times in the various sequels. He also appeared in the 1987 action film Predator, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger.

So Weathers was a welcome guest in action movies, but for some reason he always played second fiddle to the (white) hero of the movie. With Action Jackson he actually gets the chance to show that he can also carry a movie alone. And it must be said, this is going well for him. It is thanks to the cast that this standard action movie is lifted above the average, because the plot does not have the film.

The film is nice and rough and the action is not odd. As said, Carl Weathers is excellent in the lead role and the female beauty is provided in the form of pop singer annex actress Vanity and a still young Sharon Stone. Craig T. Nelson is gleefully smiling, and if he'd had a big 'I'm the villain' sign around his neck, it still wouldn't have been as ostentatious as how he's presented in this film. As soon as he comes into the picture with his head, you as a viewer already know that he is not good.

In the supporting roles, Bill Duke as the ever grumpy police chief and Chino 'Fats' Williams as former boxer Kid Sable stand out. Despite the fact that the film is now considered a cult hit and it did not do bad in the cinemas at the time, a sequel never materialized.
