Will Smith is plotting a major return to Hollywood with a sequel to the 2007 hit I Am Legend, which he will also produce.
Smith made headlines around the planet when he took offence to comments made by Chris Rock at the Academy Awards.
After Rock alluded to his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith's alopecia, Smith walked on stage and viciously slapped the comedian before walking back and sending further warnings from his seat in the front row.
That night, Smith would go on to win the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in King Richard.
He was subsequently given a 10-year ceremony ban by the Academy.
Since the Oscars, Smith has been lying low, with the exception of a recorded apology to Rock, with several projects he is due to be involved in delayed as the dust settles from the incident.
But, he is planning for the future with I Am Legend 2, according to a source, who told the Sun:
“The script is being written mentioning his character and as yet Will remains attached to the project. The concept is still to be signed off by Warner Brothers, but there has been no indication that Will is off the project.
“Obviously he is the producer of the film and his production company is in charge while the development continues. And Will himself is undergoing therapy and taking time away from the limelight."
Smith will next star in Emancipation, which is based on true events and tells the story of a slave during the American Civil War named Peter, who escapes a Louisiana plantation and makes his way north to join the Union Army.
In May of 2022, the release of Emancipation was delayed until 2023, and many critics believed this was due to the negative publicity surrounding Smith.
However, it was eventually confirmed that the movie would be released in cinemas and streaming on Apple TV + in December of 2022.
It has received mixed reviews from critics.
I am Legend 2
The first I Am Legend told the story of Robert Neville, played by Smith, a man believed to be the last human on Earth after a deadly virus wiped out the population.
It received mixed reviews from critics but was a hit at the box office, grossing $585 million from a budget of $150m.
There are no plot details about the sequel as of yet.
