Keanu Reeves says he would be honoured to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe if he was asked.
The Matrix star is one of a few A-list actors who are yet to feature in a mainstream superhero movie for Marvel or DC Comics.
In 2019, Marvel president Kevin Fiege was asked if Reeves had ever been in the studio's mind for a role, and he joked:
"We talk to him for almost every film we make. I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it."
It does indeed seem that Marvel and Reeves have been in contact, though a partnership is yet to materialise. However, for the actor's part, he insists he would jump at the chance if offered.
In an interview with Esquire, he said:
"You know, it would be an honour.
"There's some really amazing directors and visionaries and you know, they're doing something no-one's really ever done. It's special in that sense, in terms of scale, the ambition, the production, so it'd be really cool to be a part of that."
Reeves was asked about Marvel again during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, and when pressed as to which Marvel character his young self would like to play, he responded:
"I think he'd probably want to be Ghost Rider."
Reeves to adapt his own comic book
Reeves is an avid comic book fan and has been since a child. Indeed, he has created and co-written his own comic book series, BRZRKR.
It tells the story of a famous warrior who battles against the forces of evil throughout different time periods.
It has been picked up for a live-action movie as well as an animated series by Netflix, and Reeves himself might actually direct the feature.
“I know how it's a lot of work, but the film that I directed, Man of Tai Chi, was born, I became the director because I was part of the writing process, and I didn't want to hand it over," he told Collider.
"I was like, oh, okay. I have to direct this. I'm not quite there yet on ‘BRZRKR’. I have to read the script, but I'm also interested in having a collaborator and what they could bring to it.”
