Over the last decade, Disney have strengthened their hold over the entertainment industry.
While Disney historically made children's films, they are now the undisputed kings of the box office due to a number of major purchases this century.
In December of 2009, Disney completed the purchase of Marvel Studios for $4 billion. Disney, clearly, saw the potential of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as they made that money back rather quickly.
As well as franchises like The Avengers, they have oversaw major television productions like WandaVision and Ms Marvel.
Two years later, Disney purchased Lucasfilm for a similar fee, which meant they acquired the rights to not only Star Wars, but Indiana Jones.
Like with Marvel, new Star Wars movies have been produced under the Disney banner, as well as shows Disney+ like Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Mandalorian.
Prior to those purchases, Disney already had some of the most profitable franchises of all time such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Toy Story, with the latter being part of Pixar Studios.
Other well-known entertainment companies that Disney own are ABC, ESPN, The History Channel, Touchstone Pictures, Lifetime, 20th Century Fox and A&E.
