The first trailer has been released for Matthew Vaughn's new action-comedy epic, Argylle.
The official premise for the movie reads:
'Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), an introverted spy novelist who seldom leaves her home, is drawn into the real world of espionage when the plots of her books get a little too close to the activities of a sinister underground syndicate. When Aiden (Sam Rockwell), a spy, shows up to save her (he says) from being kidnapped or killed (or both), Elly and her beloved cat Alfie are plunged into a covert world where nothing, and no one, is what it seems'
Argylle Cast: Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson
There is certainly a cause for excitement after watching the trailer as it appears that Vaughn is back to his best with a Kingsman/Bond-esque adventure with a supremely talented cast, led by Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Interestingly, this is yet another role for Cavill as a spy as he has long been a favourite to play James Bond. He was considered for the role before Daniel Craig and remains in the running currently, though he is no longer one of the favourites.
He previously played a spy in The Man from U.N.C.L.E and Mission: Impossible - Fallout.
Vaughn even admitted that he moved quickly to cast Cavill as Argylle before the Bond folks made their approach.
"I needed someone who was born to play Bond — which Henry is — and then nick him before Bond did. He plays a larger-than-life action hero with a wink. It's very different from Kingsman," he said during production.
The movie is set in the modern day but is a throwback to 1980s action movies like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon, only this time with an espionage element attached.
