Tim Allen has teased the possibility of a new series of Home Improvement.

The popular sitcom aired between 1991 and 1999 and helped secure Allen's status as a major star in both television and movies.

It told the story of Tim Taylor (Allen), a family man with his own DIY show. It co-starred Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, Earl Hindman, Taran Noah Smith, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Zachery Ty Bryan and Debbe Dunning.

The last episode aired all the way back in 1999, but Allen has an idea for how the series can continue.

"I see Richard Karn a lot. I talk to the boys (Zachery Ty Bryan, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Taran Noah Smith)...and I'm there as one of their friends. We keep talking about it," he told The Messanger.

"It's funny, one of the conversations we've had recently is how weird it would be if Home Improvement would be about the kids' kids. Like if all of them had children, and I'm a grandparent. Home Re-Improvement or something like that. It's come up."

At its highest peak, Home Improvement gained around 40 million viewers in the United States.

Allen's Toy Story 5 idea

Allen is full of ideas recently, as only this month he provided his own plan for what Toy Story 5 might look like.

The comedian, who voiced Buzz Lightyear for the first four movies, reckons the plot of number five should put the focus back on Andy, who is now an adult.

"This is really off the cuff. It made me very emotional yesterday because a guy—I went to get coffee at a very small little coffee bar that he grinds his own coffee—asked me the same question just yesterday," he said in an interview with MovieDweeb.

"I don't know if this is where the story is going, but what if the whole story was through Andy as an adult? has children, and they just happen to be online, and the kid goes, 'Have you ever seen this toy?' and Andy sees that Buzz has got a hand missing, and they're selling these vintage toys.

"And Andy goes and gathers all the toys up. He has to go out and find each one of them and put them back together, bring them back to his house, and start the whole thing over again with his son. And I said, 'What a wonderful idea, it's all through Andy's eyes because we made his life, and now he's returning that favour."
