Julia Louis-Dreyfus has promised that The Thunderbolts will be "absolutely wild".
The Veep actress entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Falcon and the Winter Soldier as the mysterious Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who has subsequently made appearances in Black Widow and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
She says it was pressure from her sons that ultimately made her take a Marvel role.
"Ffor years, both of my boys have been saying, 'Mom, why don't you do a Marvel movie? Do a Marvel movie. Do a Marvel movie.'" she told Collider.
"And I'm like, Oh, they’re not going to pick me for a Marvel movie.' And then they did. And I was like, 'Oh yeah. Now my boys are going to be psyched.'
In that last movie it was revealed that the character is now head of the CIA. That position will ultimately lead her to put together The Thunderbolts, a team of anti-heroes.
"I'm really excited to shoot Thunderbolts, which we're going to do this year. It's going to be absolutely wild." she added.
At the 2022 San Diego ComicCon, Marvel executive Kevin Fiege outlined the studio's plans for the next few years, and one announcement that gained a raucous reception was the confirmation of a Thunderbolts movie.
It will star David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost and Louis-Dreyfuss as Valentina.
The Thunderbolts are 'losers'
On ComicBook.com's Phase Zero podcast, Harbour was asked about how the movie would be different from other MCU films.
And, he responded by saying that Thunderbolts will effectively focus on a bunch of losers.
"We're like losers, which I like. We're the losers. I think it's fun to watch us just mess everything up," he said.
"It's very funny, there's also a lot of pathos in that. There's a lot of drama in a bunch of people who just keep getting their lives wrong and — because of character flaws — keep messing things up. Nobody gives them the respect that they do to Captain America and Iron Man, very capable people.
"So there's a lot to draw on there. I think there's a lot of movie there that will be fun. It has all this cool action and cool comedy from what has been described to me."
