***MAJOR SUCCESSION SPOILERS BELOW***

Before the fourth season of Succession aired its opening episode, it was confirmed that it would be the last series.

Fans were disappointed but the feeling is the show will go out at its best. And, judging by the latest episode, we are in for a wild ride.

As the show is called Succession, detailing the Roy family and who will take the reins of a media juggernaut after patriarch Logan Roy , there has always been a question surrounding Logan's mortality.

He nearly died in the pilot episode, and in the third episode of season four, he succumbed to an apparent heart attack.

It has been hailed as one of the greatest episodes in the history of television. Particular praise was given to the writing and the performances of Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin who play Kendall Roy, Shiv Roy and Roman Roy respectively.

Georgia Pritchett, a longtime writer on the show, says the producers used the code word 'Larry David' - in reference to HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm - to prevent spoilers.

“This was a tough secret to keep!” Pritchett wrote on Twitter about Logan's death.

"We decided it in the ‘Succession’ writers’ room in Jan 22. So nobody found out, we used a code on the whiteboards. Larry David meant Logan Dies. So episode 403 said Connor’s Wedding, Larry David.

"Mind you, that would also have been a great episode.”

Cox happy Succession is ending

Cox previously stated his delight that the show was ending with season four as he didn't want it to outstay its welcome.

"There's an old adage. When the party's at its best, leave. And, that's what we've done," the screen legend said on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

"Jesse Armstrong, our great creator. He won't let something go by its sell-by date. Television isn't infinite. For him, its finite.

"Each season tops the last season, and there's only so much you can do, topping each season. He kind of hinted, to me, that the show was going to stop, come to an end, but he didn't decide until quite late on."
