One of the most anticipated movies of 2026 is The Odyssey.

Directed by legendary filmmaker Christopher Nolan, the movie is an adaptation of the ancient Greek poem of the same name by Homer.

Following the success of Oppenheimer, which won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director (for Nolan) and Best Actor (for Cillian Murphy), speculation was rife as to what Nolan would work on next.

A venture into the Bond franchise was mentioned, but when Nolan was informed he wouldn't have final cut of his 007 movie, he walked away from negotiations.

It was officially confirmed in December of 2024 that his next project would be The Odyssey, which will be released in the summer of 2026.

What is the plot of The Odyssey?

The official premise reads:

'The Odyssey follows Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, on his long and perilous journey home following the Trojan War, chronicling his encounters with mythical beings such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe'

Who stars in The Odyssey?

Nolan has put together a hugely impressive cast that includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Charlize Theron as Circe as well as Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel and Logan Marshall-Green among others.

There has been no official trailer released as of yet. A teaser trailer was leaked online from theaters but has largely been removed from platforms.

The trailer shows a scene with Holland as Odysseus’ son Telemachus having a conversation with an as-yet-unnamed character played by Bernthal.

“I have to find out what happened to my father,” Telemachus says, to which Bernthal’s character responds: “Who has a story about Odysseus? You? You have a story? Some say he’s rich. Some say he’s poor. Some said he perished. Some said he’s imprisoned.”
