The Flash had its first screening at CinemaCon on Tuesday, and the first reactions from the lucky select few in attendance are in.
The upcoming movie will be part of the DC extended universe and will be the first standalone outing for the character, who has previously appeared in movies like The Justice League.
The official premise reads:
'Barry Allen travels back in time to prevent his mother's murder, which brings unintended consequences to his timeline'.
Due to the separate timelines and universes that will feature in the movie, we will see two versions of Batman, played by Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck respectively, while Michael Shannon will appear as General Zod.
Ezra Miller plays The Flash / Barry Allen.
The movie will be theatrically released in June, but it was aired at CinemaCon and the initial reactions have been mostly positive.
One David Zaslav described The Flash as the best superhero movie he had ever seen, but he is, of course, an executive at Warner Bros., who produces the movie.
The Flash reviews
"The Flash Movie has some of the most beautifully over-the-top action sequences in a Superhero movie ever. It was poetry in motion in the most thrilling way. The movie has a heart to it, the emotional moments are truly moving. It’s also genuinely hilarious, deep cuts were made." - Joe Aranda (@Joey Spielberg) of Discussing Film.
"BELIEVE THE HYPE! Christopher Nolan movies aside, #TheFlashMovie is the GREATEST DC movie of the last 30 years that belongs in the same conversation as SUPERMAN 78 and BATMAN 89. The movie breaks incredible new ground in superhero cinema & honours DC lore of years past." - Umberto Gonzalez (@elmayimbe) of The Wrap.
"The Flash Movie is cinematic fire! This film is a stunning piece of art that will leave you wanting more. It stands out as one of the best DC movies ever made. The action is fantastic and it has a great balance of comedy and emotional beat." - Dorian Parks (@DorianParksnRec) of Geeks of Color.
"DC’s The Flash is TREMENDOUS! Forget DC, it is without a doubt among the best superhero films ever made. An all-timer. Inventive storytelling, FANTASTIC action sequences, great cast. SO MANY nerdy details. I’m in tears at the end. Everything you want from a superhero film & more." - Erick Davis (@ErickDavis) of Fandango.
"THE FLASH is awesome! One of the very best DC movies, a perfect blend of action, heart & humour! So many WOW & chill-inducing moments that longtime DC fans will love! EZRA MILLER is superb (twice, actually!) & MICHAEL KEATON’s still got it!." - Scott Mantz (@MovieMantz)
"Yeah, TheFlash is legit great! It delivers some notably thrilling, fun and creative moments I felt I hadn’t seen in a million other superhero movies. It had me smiling from the Warner Bros. logo at the top and I even dug stuff inspired by movies I wasn’t into." - Eric Goldman (@TheEricGoldman) of Get Fandom.
"Nostalgic. HILARIOUS. With tons of heart and two outstanding performances by Ezra Miller. I honestly can’t believe #TheFlash actually exists. It’s magical. It presses every button. I’ll see it 1,000 times." - Sean O'Connell (@Sean_OConnell) of Cinema Blend.
One of the few less positive...
"THE FLASH: First hr is pretty fantastic. Strikes the perfect tone. Ezra is great. Heroic. Funny. Emotional. The last hr is MOSTLY terrible. Just an utter mess that’ll leave you asking, “what the HELL is going on?” Fan service & DC villain problem strike again. Mixed bag overall.
"Just scanned initial reactions. Embarrassing. I’m embarrassed for my profession. Not even a whiff of criticism. A bunch of easy lays, I tell ya. There are only a handful of critical voices you can trust these days. It’s sad. And yes, I know this tweet is going to get me killed…" - Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider)
