Taron Egerton has looked back on two of his most famous movie flops with slight regret, admitting he took the roles due to the money that was on offer.
The 33-year-old skyrocketed to fame due to his role in Kingsman: The Secret Service. He followed that up with such hits as Eddie the Eagle and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, while he received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman.
Like every actor, though, he has had his fair share of flops.
His two main flops were Robin Hood and Billionaire Boys Club which both failed commercially as well as critically.
Speaking to the New York Times, Egerton says he was compelled to take the roles for financial reasons after growing up without much money.
"I ignored my instincts on those two jobs because I was offered quite a lot of money to do them," he confessed. "And that's just fatal. You can't pick roles that way.
"But I feel like I should be kinder to myself. I was a 25-year-old kid who was raised by a single mother with very little money. I wanted to make money, not just for me, but for people who are important to me. And as much as I was not pleased with how those two movies turned out, I can see very clearly, in retrospect, why I did them."
Will there be a Kingsman 3?
Egerton is most famed for his roles as Elton John in Rocketman and, of course, as Eggsy in the Kingsman series. He has played the part in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, though he sat out the prequel, The King's Man.
He has revealed that he expects to return to shooting for a third Eggsy outing in 2023.
"My understanding is that we are to be shooting the third instalment in my saga I believe next year," he said on the Jess Cagle Podcast with Julia Cunningham.
"But you know, don't listen to what I say because I really don't know. You know, they're grown-up decisions."
