James Gunn has taken to social media to debunk a rumour about Superman: Legacy.
Following the restructuring of DC Comics at the creative and executive level, any plans for Man of Steel star Henry Cavill to return as Superman were scrapped despite his cameo appearance at the end of Black Adam.
David Corenswet was eventually cast for a fresh take on Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan joining as Lois Lane.
The official premise of Superman: Legacy reads:
'Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.'
There were rumours going around online that the plot would involve Superman taking on terrorists in the Middle East, but Gunn has denied these rumours.
Gunn was asked on Instagram:
"Please tell us the terrorist threat in the Middle East storyline rumour isn't true."
Gunn simply responded: "It isn't true."
That's cleared that up, then.
Is Superman: Legacy an origin story?
The origins of Superman have been seen in movies and television shows plenty of times, and as this is a fresh take on the character, fans are wondering if this will be another origin story.
When a fan asked on BlueSky if the movie would address Superman's origins, Gunn responded:
"I think we've seen his origin enough in film at this time!"
