Steven Spielberg believes Schindler's List is the best movie he's ever made.
The acclaimed director is the most successful filmmaker in history as his movies have grossed more than anyone else, with over $10 billion in box office earnings.
Three of his movies, Jaws, E.T the Extraterrestrial, and Jurassic Park, smashed box office records at the time of their respective releases.
However, it is the holocaust drama Schindler's List that he is most proud of.
"It’s the best movie I’ve ever made. I am not going to say it’s the best movie I ever will make. But currently, it’s the work I’m proudest of." he said in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter.
For the title role of Oskar Schindler, several A-list stars were linked including Harrison Ford, Warren Beatty, Kevin Costner and Mel Gibson, but Spielberg wanted a lesser-known actor, and eventually cast Liam Neeson after seeing him with his wife Kate Capshaw performing on Broadway.
After the performance, Neeson met Spielberg, Capshaw and Capshaw's mother, whom he hugged.
"The mythological story is, Kate said to Steven when they were driving home, 'That’s just what Schindler would have done, was give my mother a hug!'" Neeson recalled.
