Daisy Ridley has teased that her next Star Wars movie will be different to anything we've seen before in the franchise.
The British actress was cast in the main role of Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and reprised it in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The second two movies proved polarising among Star Wars fans, but Ridley's performance as Rey was considered to be a highlight of all three films in the trilogy.
In April of 2023, it was announced that Rey would return in a new movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
"So I thought about it for a little bit, and once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew it was something I really wanted to do," Ridley told AlloCine.
"I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the 'Star Wars' world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction."
Ridley previously admitted at being "petrified" at the prospect of returning as Rey, who proved a popular character among Star Wars fans during the sequel trilogy.
"When I was at Sundance, I did not know ... I had a breakfast with Kathy (Kennedy, Disney executive) that I thought was just breakfast," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
"And then it was mentioned, so I thought about it. I loved the story, and I was like, ‘Okay.’ Things then happened quite quickly, and it felt like I was instantaneously on a stage being introduced by Sharmeen.
"It honestly took me back to being 20 or 21, however old I was, when (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) was announced. I was petrified, I was overwhelmed, I was really nervous but the response was really wonderful."
What is the plot of Ridley's Star Wars movie?
According to reports, the plot will focus on Rey starting a new Jedi Order 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.
This was confirmed by Kathleen Kennedy, who recently explained:
“As we move into the future space — this story is about 15 years outside of The Rise of Skywalker — obviously we realized post-war, post–First Order rise of the New Jedi Order, we left Episode 9 with Rey making a commitment to Luke Skywalker that she would rebuild the Jedi order.
“And so here we are — we’re ready to do that. And it took a lot of discussion because obviously we’ve been developing stories in different spaces, and television has been a big focus of our attention right now. But there’s still so much interest in what happens after The Rise of Skywalker. So we’re excited to be doing that.”
