Michael Shannon not 'satisfied' with his work in The Flash

Michael Shannon admits he is not as "satisfied" with his performance as General Zod in The Flash compared to his outing as the supervillain in Man of Steel.

The Flash will be part of the DC Extended Universe and will be the first standalone outing for the character of Barry Allen, who has previously appeared in movies like The Justice League.

The official premise reads:

'Barry Allen travels back in time to prevent his mother's murder, which brings unintended consequences to his timeline'.

Due to the separate timelines and universes that will feature in the movie, we will see two versions of Batman, played by Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck respectively, while Shannon returns as Zod.

It wasn't a wholly satisfying experience for Shannon, though, who compared multiverse movies to tossing action figures together.

"I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't quite satisfying for me, as an actor," he confessed.

"These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures. It's like, 'Here's this person. Here's that person. And they're fighting!'

"It's not quite the in-depth character study situation that I honestly felt Man of Steel was. Whether people think that's crazy or not, I don't even care. I really felt like Man of Steel was actually a pretty sophisticated story. I feel like The Flash is too, but it's not Zod's story. I'm basically there to present a challenge."

Shannon wanted Snyder's permission to play Zod

When Shannon was approached by director Andy Muschietti to reprise the role of Zod for The Flash, Shannon insisted that he would only return if he received permission from Man of Steel director Zak Snyder.
