John Boyega has reacted to recent comparisons to Denzel Washington.
The British actor is most-known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy but has also received acclaim for his performances in movies like Attack the Block, The Woman King and Detroit.
On the small screen, he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in Steve McQueen's anthology series, Small Axe.
His latest movie is a thriller, Breaking. It tells the story of an ex-marine who is struggling to adapt to civilian life and ends up being involved in a bank robbery.
His performance has been compared to Washington's in John Q.
But, Boyega isn't having those comparisons just yet.
“I’m not involved in that conversation, man," he told Yahoo.
"If that’s what they see then that’s all a blessing. Denzel is one of the best actors in the industry. And I just started out. So for me, I haven’t got the time or the stripes to be able to even involve myself in such a conversation. I will definitely thank God for such an opportunity.”
No Marvel role for John Boyega
Earlier this year, speculation gathered online that Boyega had held talks with Marvel about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But, he says joining that franchise isn't in his current plans.
“That’s not in the vision for me now,” he told Men's Health.
“I want to do nuanced things.?.?.?.?I want to donate my services to original indie films that come with new, fresh ideas, because I know it’s real hard to top Iron Man in that universe.”
