Zoe Saldana says she felt 'bitter' about commencing filming on Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 as it presented the beginning of the end of her portrayal of Gamora.
The actress has played Gamora in the first two Guardians movies as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Though a version of the character would return in Endgame, the original version died at the hands of Thanos in Infinity War.
Director James Gunn has confirmed that vol.3 will be the last time we see the group of Gamora, Starlord, Rocket, Groot, Drax, Nebula and Mantis together.
" started bitter in the beginning cause obviously you're anticipating the end, but I'm just so happy that once again I got to work with great people," Saldana told Entertainment Tonight.
"I had an evolution that I witnessed of myself, but also my director and my cast. I just felt very blessed and grateful. It was a very sweet departure, I have to say."
The official premise for Guardians 3 reads:
'Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally the Guardians of the Galaxy on a mission to defend the universe and protect one of their own.'
The movie stars Saldana, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Maria Bakalova.
Gamora to be a villain in Guardians 3?
Prior to filming, Saldana previously stated her desire to see a more villainous, lethal version of Gamora.
“There’s a part of me that wants her to go back. Find her way back to the Guardians. But there’s also a part of me that wants to explore a bad Gamora," she revealed.
“I’ve never seen that and she’s, you know, she’s considered the most lethal assassin. The most lethal woman in the galaxy. So I would want to see what that wrath looks like, also because it would just give me layers to sort of work on. But yeah, I want her to get back to the Guardians.”
However, the chief villain of Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 is set to be Adam Warlock, played by Poulter.
