Free Guy director Shawn Levy has confirmed that a sequel is in development to the 2021 hit which starred Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer.
The movie told the story of Guy, a non-playable character in a huge online video game who suddenly develops a personality outwith his designed algorithm.
It grossed $331 million worldwide and received positive reviews from critics, which meant a sequel became inevitable.
With Levy currently working on Deadpool 3 with Reynolds, though, it probably won't happen anytime soon.
"It's still in development. I don't know if it's in the cards, but it is very much still in development," he told Collider.
"It's something that Disney and Fox want badly. I really try to not make sequels that don't deserve to be.
"And it's why I didn't move forward with the Real Steel sequel because I didn't feel we had a second movie that could match or top the first."
Levy not keen on sequels
Levy has been involved in numerous sequels in the Night at the Museum franchise, but he insists he usually attempts to steer clear of sequels unless they can live up to the first movie.
"I'm holding Free Guy to that same standard," he explained.
"We are still hearing ideas, developing ideas, expanding on ideas.
"But I would say that in the time that's passed since Free Guy came out, the love for that movie has become more and more clear to Ryan and I, anecdotally, on sidewalks, in the press.
"So we're not going to mess with a good thing unless we can make a great thing."
