Edward Furlong recalls THAT scene in Terminator: Dark Fate

Edward Furlong has looked back on the most infamous scene in Terminator: Dark Fate.

The Terminator series is one of the most successful franchises in history, starting with 1984's The Terminator, starring Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The pinnacle of the series is considered to the be first sequel, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, which saw Furlong play a teenage version of John Connor - the man who is described as being the saviour of humanity in the future war against the machines.

Though Furlong would enjoy success with other movies like American History X, he is undoubtedly most known for his outing as Connor.

Following a string of unpopular sequels to T2, Dark Fate was created to act as a direct sequel to that movie, with the others not considered part of the canon of the first two films.

When news of Furlong's involvement surfaced, fans were naturally excited about his return.

But, that excitement quickly turned to confusion as not that long into Dark Fate, Connor is murdered by another version of the Terminator. CGI was used to show the audience a teenage Connor again, and Furlong wasn't even involved.

What has Edward Furlong said about Connor's death?

The actor was struggling with drug problems at the time and so understands why he didn't receive the call to return in any of the T2 sequels. But, he knew fans wouldn't be happy about Connor's fate.

"Personally, I thought, 'This is not going to go over well.'" he previously said on Alex Leyba's YouTube channel.

"I kind of figured, with the fan base, because I knew that Terminator 2 is such a big thing, and when they said I was in it, people came up and said, 'I'm so glad you're in the movie!'

"It was kind of like, after all the different John Connors that have played it, and I messed up, I kind of got back what I felt like was rightfully mine. So, it was nostalgic. Would I have loved it if I got to be in a new Terminator and did the whole movie and made more money than I did, and probably still be making money?

"Yeah, that'd be awesome. That'd be really awesome."

Three actors have played John Connor after Furlong's performance - Nick Stahl in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Christian Bale in Terminator: Salvation and Jason Clarke in Terminator Genisys.
