With Ke Huy Quan very much the taste of Hollywood these days, many Indiana Jones fans have speculated that the Oscar winner was primed for a cameo appearance in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Quan played Short Round in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but as time went on he turned his back on the film industry due to a lack of opportunities for Asian actors. Now, he is an Academy Award winner, having collected the honour for Best Supporting Actor for Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Ford and Quan have publicly displayed their friendship on a couple of occasions over the past year, most recently at the premiere of Dial of Destiny when they embraced in a hug.
But, director James Mangold has explained why we won't see Short Round with Indy again.
“We looked at all these different things, but the first thing we were trying to do was assemble a story that made sense in the present, meaning in the 1969 section of the movie," he told IGN.
“If you notice… the only person we follow through the whole way is Indy himself. Joined by Helena , and I felt like we needed to have a female lead who challenged him. But we looked at all these different things and tried to figure out how they would work. I just didn't want another adult along for the ride.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set for release on 28 June 2023.
Harrison Ford ready for a break
Ford is currently filming Captain America: Brave New World which he jumped into after Dial of Destiny as well as a part in the television series, Shrinking.
He reckons he is due a break to spend more time at home with his wife Calista Flockhart.
“I’d like to spend a little bit more time at home, frankly,” he confirmed.
“I love making movies, I’ve been making movies for longer than even 42 years and… my work is really important to me. I really appreciate the opportunity to do it – my wife granted me that opportunity. But I’ve been working a lot lately so I might be due for a bit of a rest.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny stars Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holdbrook and Toby Jones.
