Hollywood took a collective sigh of relief this week after the news that the SAG-AFTRA actor strike finally ended.
Since May, several movie and television productions have been delayed due to striking writers and actors. Over the summer it was the first time that writers and actors had been on strike at the same time in 60 years.
The writer's guild sorted out new contracts with studios first which meant screenplays could be started or recommenced, but no filming could take place without striking actors.
SAG-AFTRA announced that their own strike would end on Thursday this week.
With plenty of movies now set to get going again on the production side, Marvel have acted quickly to announce new release dates for some of their biggest upcoming movies.
Deadpool 3 - 26 July, 2024
Official premise:
'Wolverine is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the loudmouth, Deadpool. They team up to defeat a common enemy.'
Hugh Jackman previously retired from his role as Wolverine following the events of Logan. Apparently, the only story that would tempt him to come back was the prospect of teaming up properly with Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool after the disaster that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Deadpool 3 stars Reynolds, Jackman, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Rob Delaney, Matthew Macfadyen and Jennifer Garner.
Thunderbolts - 25 July, 2025
Official premise:
'A world without Avengers doesn't mean there's not a group of superheroes. There is a group and they're called the Thunderbolts.'
Similar to DC's Suicide Squad, Thunderbolts focuses on a group of anti-heroes.
The Phase Five MCU feature will star David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Captain America: Brave New World - 14 February, 2025
There is no official synopsis or plot for Captain America 4 yet, but it will focus on Sam Wilson's emergence as the new version of Cap and having to live up to Steve Rogers.
According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, some reshoots were required after some less-than-positive test screenings.
This one has a cracking cast which includes Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas and Liv Tyler.
Blade - 11 July, 2025
There are no plot details for Blade either as this project has had one of the most tumultuous developments of any movie in recent memory.
In September of last year, previous director Bassam Tariq left the project with just one month to go until filming, which was subsequently postponed anyway due to the actor and writer strikes in 2023.
Yann Demange was then hired, though filming is yet to begin.
The director recently revealed that this one will be R-rated, which will come as a pleasant surprise to fans of the Daywalker.
Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali will play Blade.
