With James Gunn now head of creative direction for DC Studios, fans have been speculating as to which actors could potentially play the raft of characters available within the DC Universe.
Specifically, fans are wondering whether Gunn could potentially go back to some of his Marvel chums whom he worked with on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
One rumour that started doing the rounds was Dave Bautista potentially playing Batman villain Bane for DC. But, the actor himself believes he is too old for the role.
"I have had conversations with James about that but I think the direction he's leaning in, completely rebooting that whole universe, he's starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher and I think you need to do that," the former professional wrestler told Variety.
DC to be revamped with younger actors
One of Gunn's first orders of business in his new job was to announce that Henry Cavill would not be returning to play Superman, despite his cameo as the character in Black Adam and his own subsequent announcement that he would feature as Clark Kent again.
Bautista believes that Gunn's vision of revamping everything with young blood is the right one.
"I think for the DC Universe to be revived, you need to start from scratch, and I think you need to start with younger actors," he continued.
"You need to start to plan for the next 15 years, and I just don't think you can do that with me. And I understand that. And, also, I have to say that I appreciate that because I don't want to play a character that I can't bring justice to it.
"I don't think at this point in my career that I can bring justice to Bane anymore. I just don't know if I could handle the physical part, and I don't think I would have the longevity to plan ahead for films. So, I just don't know if I'd be that guy."
