Colin Farrell's Penguin series will tie-in with The Batman 2
The Penguin television series will be a necessary watch for fans of The Batman ahead of the movie's sequel, according to Matt Reeves.
In 2022, Batman was rebooted with The Batman, with Robert Pattinson starring as Bruce Wayne. The movie received positive reviews and was a huge commercial success, too.
Alongside Pattinson were Colin Farrell as Penguin, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as The Riddler.
Farrell's performance proved so popular that, no long after the movie's release, a television series based on the character of Penguin was announced. And, it seems like the series will lead up to the events of The Batman 2.
“We are very, very soon going to start shooting The Penguin with Colin. That is super exciting," Reeves told Collider.
“There's actually a whole little fabric of things we're wanting to do, the way we're doing with Penguin and how that comes back into how that will lead into the sequel, and what that sequel is going to be
The director also revealed that he was working hard on the script for The Batman sequel, but was coy when asked about details on the movie.
What will The Penguin series be about?
At the conclusion of The Batman, Oswald 'Oz' Cobblepot is poised to take over the crime syndicate previously led by Carmine Falcone, so the series will likely focus on his emergence as a new crime lord.
Deadline previously reported that the series will be akin to Scarface, as Penguin's ascendancy is akin to that of Tony Montana.
Reeves previously said: “There are some other things we have planned too. The BatVerse of what we're doing has me very, very excited, and I'm very passionate about it. So I'm excited."
It is believed that he is planning on doing a two more series - one based on Arkham Asylum and the other based on the Gotham City Police Department.
