Chris Hemsworth is eager to play Thor for as long as fans don't get sick of his portrayal of the God of Thunder.

In 2011, Hemsworth was thrust into the spotlight when he was cast in the first Thor movie. From there, he would make numerous appearances as the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

To date, Thor is the only character to have received four standalone movies in the MCU so far, though that will soon change with the release of Captain America: Brave New World.

Thor's last outing came in 2022 with Love and Thunder, which was a financial success but received mixed reviews. As for a potential fifth Thor film, Hemsworth is eager to return if he can try and reinvent the character once again.

"I don't want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen as that character," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"If an audience wants to see it, and if there's something that we believe is exciting and fun, then great. I've loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don't have the answer yet, but I would love to try and how we can do that again and keep it a little unpredictable."

A new version of Thor?

In Thor and Thor: The Dark World, and arguably The Avengers, Hemsworth played Thor relatively straight and serious - the hammer-wielding God of Thunder.

As the MCU progressed, we saw the actor's comedic chops impress through various different incarnations of the character. The Big Lebowski version of Thor comes to mind.

It is working with numerous different directors and writers over the course of his time in the MCU that has kept Hemsworth coming back for four stand-alone Thor movies as well as multiple other appearances.

“I love the experience, " he told GQ.

"I love the fact that I’ve been able to do something fairly different throughout the process. Thor 1 and 2 were their own thing, Thor 3 and 4 were a very different feel… and then even Avengers, the Lebowski Thor, the Infinity War Thor, due to different directors and I think mostly my own need to do something different.

"You know, I got sick of the character pretty quick every couple of years!"
