Chris Evans is more open to a return as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch than Captain America.
The actor played Cap to acclaim in numerous movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
At the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers goes back in time to be with his love Peggy Carter and hands over his Cap shield to Sam Wilson. Anthony Mackie's Wilson is the new Captain America in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World.
Evans is constantly asked about a potential return as Cap, but it seems he is more interested in a return a Johnny, whom he played in Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
“God, wouldn’t that be great?” the Marvel star said about a Johnny Storm return, as reported by Giant Freakin Robot.
“Wouldn’t that be great? No, no one’s ever come to me about that. I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. Oh my God, I’m old. But I really love that character.
"That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. You know what I mean? Cap is so precious to me. And you know, I almost don’t wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was. But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So, I loved that role and, you know, who knows?”
Evans: Never say never to Captain America return
Evans does not want to rule out a return as Steve Rogers, however.
“I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience,” he told GQ.
“But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing. So, no time soon.”
