Bob Odenkirk reckons he just isn't cut out for the scale of movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Traditionally a comedian, Odenkirk has carved out an impressive career as a dramatic television actor, earning acclaim for his role as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
With every actor under the sun linked with a role in a Marvel or DC movie at one point or another, he was asked recently if he could see himself in such a fantasy world.
“I always like to keep things grounded, relatable and smaller. I don’t think I’m built for that world," he told the Independent.
“I’m built for characters that make you feel like that guy could live next door.”
Odenkirk recently became an unlikely action star due to his performance in Nobody, a movie about a former assassin turned family man who is thrust back into the underworld.
Nobody 2 is happening
In December of 2022, a sequel to Nobody was officially announced, with Odenkirk set to reprise his role as Hutch Mansell.
Some positive news for the actor, then, who seemingly had a blast filming the first movie.
“I was very surprised by 'Nobody'. I had initiated that project because I had a feeling that the character I was developing in 'Better Call Saul' was the kind of character you see in an action film," he explained at the Venice Film Festival last year.
“He has earnest desires and he was willing to sacrifice himself … I still train multiple times a week and if I get my way you’re going to see me doing more action. I found the action sequences a great deal of fun and close to doing sketch comedy … I love the early Jackie Chan films which had humour in them. I’d like to get that in the future.”
