The Bikeriders, starring Jodie Comer and Austin Butler, indefinitely delayed due to actor strike
Written and directed by Jeff Nichols, it tells the story of a biker gang in the 1960s.
The official synopsis reads:
'Kathy (Comer), a strong-willed member of the Vandals who is married to a wild, reckless bikerider named Benny (Butler), recounts the Vandals' evolution over the course of a decade, beginning as a local club of outsiders united by good times, rumbling bikes, and respect for their strong, steady leader Johnny (Hardy).
'Over the years, Kathy tries her best to navigate her husband's untamed nature and his allegiance to Johnny, with whom she feels she must compete for Benny's attention. As life in the Vandals gets more dangerous, and the club threatens to become a more sinister gang, Kathy, Benny and Johnny are forced to make choices about their loyalty to the club and to each other.'
The movie is based on the 1968 photo book of the same name, though the story itself is an original one developed by Nichols.
The motorcycle club The Vandals was founded in the Midwest in the 1960s. It is a gathering place for the local outsiders led by Johnny. He has found a loyal right hand in Benny. Over the ensuing decade, the club has gone down a dark path that threatens its initial and unique lifestyle. Each member's loyalty to the club and each other is tested.
Judging from the new trailer, it seems the story is told from Kathy's perspective as he explains her relationship with Benny, a loose cannon. As well as the main storyline, The Bikeriders will be a deep dive into biker gang culture from the 60s.
It premiered as the opening film of the 50th Telluride Film Festival in August and was due to be theatrically released in cinemas on December 1, but that release date has been postponed due to the ongoing actor strike in Hollywood.
Nicholls has been unable to complete the movie due to the actor strike and the previous writer strike.
