Benedict Cumberpatch has joined the cast of The End We Start From, a survival movie starring Jodie Comer.
The End We Start From is based on the novel of the same name by Megan Hunter. It concerns a mother who attempts to find her way home with a newborn baby amid apocalyptic flooding in London.
Comer will play the mother, while other cast members include Mark Strong, Katherine Waterston, Joel Fry, Gina McKee and Nina Sosanya, with Mahalia Belo in the director's chair.
The actress previously said of her character:
"My character is ordinary and extraordinary, both her very personal life and the world around her have been turned upside down and she is dealing with the unknown at every turn. Her story is about the quiet heroics of determination, devotion, bravery and love."
Both Comer and Cumberpatch will act as executive producers. The latter's production company, SunnyMarch, is behind the movie which led to his involvement in front of the camera also.
A heart-wrenching novel
Producers Leah Clarke, Liza Marshall and Adam Ackland have said of The End We Start From:
"Megan’s heart-wrenching novel, and Alice’s wonderful adaptation, present a story about motherhood, separation, social and environmental upheaval, and those primal instincts in us which draw moments of joy and inspiration out of the chaos.
"We are incredibly excited to have Mahalia and Jodie lead this talented creative team in making what we know will be a resonant, riveting film."
Filming on the movie started in August of 2022.
