A video game adaptation of one of the best horror movies in recent memory, Barbarian, is coming.
The official premise of the movie:
'A young woman discovers the rental home she booked is already occupied by a stranger. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the night but soon discovers there's a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.'
It was written and directed by Zach Cregger and starred Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long.
Barbarian proved to be a huge success both critically and commercially as it holds a 3.24 MovieMeter rating and went on to gross around $45 million on a budget of just $4m.
In the statement announcing the new video game adaptation, Yariv Milchan, Chairman and CEO of New Regency Pictures, said:
“Expanding the Barbarian universe into gaming provides a new way to capture the horror that made the film such a success. We’re thrilled to collaborate with the incredibly talented team at Diversion3 Entertainment to immerse new and existing fans in this world.”
The game will be developed by Diversion3 who have experience in movie-to-game adaptations as they previously released The Evil Dead: The Game and Friday 13th: The Game.
The second half of Barbarian especially lends itself to some nerve-shredding moments that would be perfect in a video game world, more than likely from a first-person perspective akin to Resident Evil: Biohazard.
