May the Force be with you - de wijze woorden die Obi-Wan Kenobi ooit sprak tegen Luke Skywalker - is in een Britse online poll gekozen tot filmquote aller tijden. In totaal brachten meer dan 100.000 mensen hun stem uit.

AOL-gebruikers konden kiezen uit een lijst met 100 filmquotes. Na de eerste stemronde werd daar een kortere lijst uit samengesteld waarop beroemde woorden uit tien films stonden, waaronder Goodfellas, Life of Brian en Taxi Driver. Star Wars versloeg de andere titels met een ruime voorsprong.

Terwijl sci-fi fans de eerste plaats betekenden voor Star Wars, waren het naar alle waarschijnlijkheid vrouwen die zorgden dat Dirty Dancing - "Nobody puts baby in the corner" – met 21% tweede werd.

Andere favoriete filmquotes zijn onder meer "We’re going to need a bigger boat" uit Jaws en Arnold Schwarzenegger’s "I’ll be back" uit The Terminator. De uitslag van de poll – die gehouden werd ter ere van een nieuwe betaalde film-downloaddienst – is als volgt:

Is buiten de film geen briljante quote, of ging 't spel daar niet om?(oprechte vraag)

Voor mij niet, maar voor de rest kan ik niet spreken.

Daar mag je zelf invulling aan geven. Ik vind van niet, Reinbo bijvoorbeeld van wel. Verder kan ie ook prima buiten de film om ('the horror, the horror' als er iets gebeurt dat je niet leuk vindt en effe lekker wil dramatiseren).
