Persoonlijke top 100

033. To catch A Thief (Alfred Hitchcock, 1955)

Hitchcock heeft betere films gemaakt dan deze... zelfde geldt voor Lynch en Kubrick.

Mooie afwisselende lijst hoor. Niet alles is mijn smaak, maar de wisseling tussen oud en nieuw, groot en klein, moeilijke cinema en simpele film, dat alles is prettig. En dan maar zien wat je volgend jaar hebt.

Wat Hitchcock betreft kan ik u begrijpen, al is To Catch a Thief een leuke sfeervolle film.

Wat Lynch betreft moet ik Lost Highway, Inland Empire en Eraserhead nog zien. The Elephant Man en The Straight Story zijn wat tegengevallen en Mulholland Dr. en Blue Velvet zijn gewoon topfilms met een enorm sterke sfeer. Volgend jaar staan die ongetwijfeld hoger, dat is zeker.

Bij Kubrick bedoel je zeker dat 2001 niet in de lijst staat. Die film is zeker niet slecht, maar hij heeft ook wat mindere punten.

Met Lost Highway en Inland Empire heb je nog twee geweldige films te gaan

Wat Kubrick betrefd inderdaad 2001, maar ook The Killing en Barry Lyndon zijn geweldig....

Eens Top30 update gemaakt. En het blijft eigenlijk ontzettend suf om sommige films boven of onder elkaar te zetten. Vooral de serie 11 tm 21 is wat mij betreft een gedeelde plek:

Gewoonlijk post ik een top 100 in augustus, dit jaar sla ik even over. Ik heb al een top 500 gemaakt voor het top 1000 project een paar maanden geleden en de verschillen met de top 100 daar zouden te verwaarloosbaar zijn.

Het valt al niet mee om je favoriete films in een top-10 een beetje aardig op volgorde te zetten, laat staan een top-100. Toch voor de eerste keer een poging gewaagd en zie hier het resultaat:

vanaf de jaren 60 dus redelijk evenwichtig verdeeld. vanaf dat moment was zowel de vrijheid van censuur als de kwaliteit van de techniek op zo'n niveau dat er relatief veel meer goede en interessante films werden gemaakt dan daarvoor, dus dat is goed te verklaren. En ik ben blij dat de afgelopen 10 jaar niet verhoudingsgewijs oververtegenwoordigd zijn, zoals zo snel kan gebeuren bij dit soort lijstjes. Had daar allemaal geen rekening mee gehouden bij het maken van de lijst, dus ben daar inderdaad wel erg blij mee.

Wat betreft losse jaren wint 1979 het met gemak met vijf films in de top 100, waarvan zelfs twee in de top 10, maar goede tweede is 1992 met eveneens vijf titels en Basic Instinct (1992) mistte de top 100 dit keer maar net!

Voor een iets gedetailleerde doorlichting (nieuw/weg) verwijs ik jullie door. In het kort: 20 nieuws films, balans tussen Europa/US/Azië blijft verder redelijk behouden. Ondanks dat de Japanse cinema in het algemeen de laatste jaren wat achteruit is gegaan, blijven ze toch nog steeds de beste films leveren wat mij betreft.

Alhoewel onze smaken vrij ver uit elkaar liggen, toch enkele leuke titels in de lijst. En een standvastige top 10. Wanneer was je vorige top 100? Vorige jaar?
