"It takes a lifetime to bring up a family and a weekend to lose the lot!"
The Cromptons live near the industrial town of Bolton, where father Rafe and most of his children work. Rafe is a headstrong man who wants to raise his children with an iron fist. When daughter Hilda refuses to eat what is presented to her one evening, it causes a whole series of difficulties, which will eventually lead to Rafe losing all contact with his children.
