Like Macady, I can't give it more than a bare pass.

The first 15-20 minutes in which a dazed and disoriented Jean-Claude discovers that his kidney has been stolen and tries to reconstruct how that actually happened is quite nicely done. The director takes the time to create a certain atmosphere and Jean-Claude executes that perfectly. Up to that point extremely positive.

However, after that the film changes into a standard bief bang poef story. Now that is no surprise in a Jean-Claude flick, but then the fight and action scenes have to be in order. In advance you would think that this b-movie director should be able to do that. Unfortunately that is disappointing. Van Damme is indeed a bit on the syrupy/wooden side and the other action scenes (especially the car chase) are below par. Incidentally, I do think that the director partly ensures that Van Damme does not fully come into his own in the fights. The editing is mediocre and it is often too dark.

Nevertheless, for a B-movie it is all reasonably entertaining and good for an hour and a half of entertainment. Van Damme seems to be enjoying himself quite a bit too.

First of all, the camera work and editing in this film are terrible. They also worked with a green screen and it all looks awful. Several times, a body double was clearly used for JCVD, probably to keep the costs down. But the story itself is quite ok. The ending is certainly nice with a small twist. JCVD acts quite ok but the others leave something to be desired. Still, I enjoyed myself quite a bit with this. That will certainly not be in the least because I am a big JCVD fan. Well, so-so film, but still quite nice.

A mediocre Van Damme. The film opens with an interesting fact when we find Van Damme injured in his hotel room. Through flashbacks we find out what happened. But the story that follows seems rather artificial. Fortunately, there is that older Chinese man who always takes on the exposition, and tells us exactly what they are going to do, and why it is important or dangerous.

The style should be modern and flashy, but quickly looks forcedly hip. The angular camera movements, fast zooms and especially the more hallucinatory images of the night with flashes, neon and distorted sound sometimes give the film more the look of a video clip. In itself I could do something with that, if that style were consistent. But unfortunately it is not. Especially the scene in the summer house is excruciatingly slow.

The action is nice and the film has a nice twist at the end. But apart from that, Van Damme has played in much better films. Nice for fans of the man.
