In the beginning, this film threatens to become a cross between The Bourne identity and The matrix, but luckily the story gradually takes its own direction and its setting and plot are fascinating enough to entertain, although the film always remains quite predictable and the viewer can never doubt a victory of "the good". Nice to see an SF action-paranoia thriller in the Dutch language area, and well acted (although Tygo Gernandt can be a lot scarier than here) and directed, but not top notch.

I don't know the book on which this film is based. Given the distressing scenario, I will be able to suppress the need to read the book effortlessly. It's a poor film, both in story and design.

Although Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen does his best to make something of it, he has no chance in advance given the weakness of the material. I have also seen the Flemish beauty Ella-June Henrard in action better.

It is better not to compare the film with The Hunger Games or Divergent, because that will be disappointing. But all in all it's an okay movie. Acting is good (okay, those typical Dutch unnatural dialogues every now and then, but you have to accept that when you watch a Dutch film I'm afraid). Camera work is also fine. Something goes wrong in the script. They should have taken half an hour more to work it out more carefully. There are now sometimes big leaps and the story loses credibility at times which was easily prevented. It is based on a book by Mirjam Mous. Now I do not know this author, but if someone had told me that the story was written by Charles den Tex, I would have believed it immediately. Den Tex also often delivers stories that are just not quite right, are just not finished, could have been thought out just a little better and are still very nice to read. So it is with this movie. It's just not there and can't compete with the big Hollywood productions it is compared to. But the film is still fun to watch. Therefore 3 stars.
