Interesting fact that this autobiographical film is based on a horrific incident in the life of director Nils Malmros. That probably explains why the story is told from the point of view of the husband. As a result, I missed a direct connection with the horrific incident. Possibly the impact of the film would have been greater if the woman had been given a more prominent place in the film to tell the story first hand.

Special drama about the murder of a child by his mother. Special in the sense that it is the director's own experience as the father of the child. From that point of view, the story is also told from his point of view, which means that we have a one-sided plot. His wife and her context are not highlighted enough, so that the gruesome drama and everything around it is not accentuated enough.

Strange may be the wrong word, but it is strange how forgiving and empathetic the man is towards his wife. After all, this is about the death of his child. OK, guilt will definitely play a part here, but still. Nevertheless, this unfolding provides a picture of a certain nuance that I can appreciate.

I have no idea what I miss about the movie. No idea to what extent it really corresponds to reality, but it is clever of Malmros to make this as a kind of personal therapy, perhaps.

A mother kills her nine-month-old daughter on a psychotic impulse. The film initially seems a bit distant and even boring. But actually it all builds up very nicely. There are certainly very nice scenes in it and I think it is certainly a realistic film in that situation I can imagine. Beautiful film, but not a real high-flyer despite the deeply emotional and tragic subject.
