For you, Poland is a historical document. A patriotic film made during the Polish-Soviet War (1919-1921)

The film opens with a fleeting acquaintance of the love couple Hanka and Franek in Vilnius, besieged by the Bolsheviks. For propaganda reasons, only the Russian crimes are shown (and not the pogroms carried out by the Poles). The Red Army is beating away at it. A child is hit by a rifle butt. Hanka barely manages to save herself due to the intervention of her grandfather, who has to pay for this with death. Finally, the Polish cavalry frees her from another rape attempt.

Meanwhile, Franek makes himself useful in the Polish army by tracking down spies. Russian aggression, however, continues unabated. Polish civilians, including a man thrown out of a window, are mercilessly put against the wall and shot.

Very beautiful are the images of the reconquest of Vilnius by the Poles. The infantry charges from the trenches and the advancing tanks are certainly not inferior to the scenes from All Quiet on the Western Front.

However, due to the Polish advance, Hanka does not get the chance to join the army in order to serve the motherland as a nurse. She decides to disguise herself as a soldier and still manages to reach her lover.

It's somewhat paternalistic, of course. The role of women in the Polish army and certainly in the siege of Vilnius was not insignificant at all.

Nevertheless, in my opinion, the film takes full credit.
