I don't think he'll ever be the biggest Monroe fan. I've seen four of his films now, but none of them score higher than 2*. I still have Mongolian Death Worm ready, but after that, his credit runs out. There aren't any real major differences to be found with his peers. A simple, assembly-line director who focuses on B-movie monster flicks and occasionally dares to venture into other subgenres. Where the success of his "I Spit On Your Grave" remake comes from... is a mystery to me. That film barely rises to the level of the rest of his oeuvre. Ultimately, it's mainly due to the way he directs his actors and timed the action. I almost see it as a parody of the genre, if it weren't meant entirely seriously. What you get is 70 minutes of "Huh, what was that? Nothing? Okay, move on" and repeat. And 20 minutes built around that to set it up and break it down. You can't bother the seasoned fans with this anymore, you really have to be a lot more self-confident.

The film's Asian character is particularly painful. How far off the mark can you go?

A somewhat soulless horror film that has little to nothing to do with Halloween itself. Director Steven R. Monroe seems to be primarily employed by production companies and less driven by independent passion, making this film utterly unconvincing. Several murders are rather brutal, and Kaitlyn Leeb's performance, in particular, is strong, but the background design is noticeably lacking in atmosphere, and the flow of the film is mediocre. As a horror film enthusiast, you've seen it all before, and Monroe does little to elevate it. A Grave Halloween is doomed to oblivion.
