Exodus: Gods and Kings plot
"Once brothers, now enemies."
Moses was abandoned as a child by his desperate mother and was found by Pharaoh's daughter. He grew up in the Egyptian royal family along with future Pharaoh Ramesses II. But when he sees a burning bush that spoke with the voice of God, Moses becomes convinced that he must free the Israelite slaves from slavery, which led to the splitting of the Red Sea and a forty-year pilgrimage through the desert in search of the Promised country.

A religious story, filmed without a shred of religion? Well... Because say yourself: a terrifying child in the form of God, with autotune on the voice? A hoarsely screaming Christian Bale as the personification of Moses struggling with his faith? And the wide-open eyes of Ben Kingsley, in which the public should read the willpower of an oppressed but devout people? Well...
Ridley Scott has filmed the screenplay as he would any screenplay: in a pompous, somewhat sentimental, extremely epic way. It is unfortunate that 'Exodus: Gods and Kings' thus becomes an uninteresting and bloated beating of the Old Testament. Nevertheless, the Ten Plagues are horribly portrayed, and frankly, the film has a nice pace too. So not a total mistake. But it didn't matter much...

Well it doesn't really match the actual events. Filmmakers should have read the bible first. Staff Moses. Attack crocodiles that colored the Nile red????
Sea split open and did not rise dry. Moses opened and closed the sea itself did not fall into water. Cloud column etc etc etc. Too bad the cartoon is more realistic.
So much money and then not telling the right story. So many own inventions!
Do you have an existing script are you going to change it.... how stupid can you be!

I watched it anyway, though I wasn't really into it, but this was the only Ridley Scott movie I hadn't seen yet. And it was actually not that bad: when I saw John Turturro as pharaoh I was afraid that this would get a high unintentional Monty Python level, but everyone actually plays it quite soberly, and because the emphasis is more on politics than on religion the movie is not sticky at all. By now I'm getting a little tired of all those CGI cities, "desaturated" colors and dark skies, and the use of the Armenian cloth to immediately create an association with the Middle East in the viewer is just such a cliché like using the Eiffel Tower or an accordion to indicate that we are in Paris. Bale is doing fine, Edgerton is pretty nasty, Sigourney Weaver is criminally underused, and the Seven Plagues look pretty distasteful (great crocodiles!). All in all, an adequate and fairly fascinating film adaptation of a "historical" episode that we will probably encounter more often. And it seems that the problems Moses foresees when his hundreds of thousands arrive in Canaan suggest a parallel to the current asylum-seeker crisis, just as Kingdom of Heaven carried a message of tolerance at a time when it was sorely needed. used to be.
