Jakhalsdans plot

Mara Malan, a school teacher, sells everything she has and comes to a village in the Karoo with her five-year-old daughter Mia, only to find out that the school will soon close if 3.5 million rand is not collected. One of the few who doesn't give up immediately, she looks for ways to collect money while arguing with the hermit who lives just outside the village. When all options for fundraising are exhausted, she discovers that the hermit is a famous singer who has retired and never wants to perform again.
