Baas Gansendonck plot

Around 1860 in the Kempen. Baas Gansendonck, the innkeeper of a village inn, feels elevated far above the farmers and imagines himself to be of nobility. His daughter Liza has always remained simple, but suddenly he finds her fiancé Karel, the brewer's son, too small. Gansendonck tries to link his daughter to the baron, but after a fight to save Liza's honour, Karel ends up in prison. Meanwhile, Liza languishes with grief.
