A very unique movie experience because, even as a viewer, you don't know when it is real or not?
A film within a film within another film? No, I actually don't think it was intended that way, but it is very strange that the 2 main actors themselves are also filmed again by another cameraman; who is that cameraman then, and wasn't the shoot at the end also a film within a film?
The Dirties is a film that will stick with me for a while; the questions the film raises but doesn't clearly answer cleverly keep it churning in your head.

I stumbled upon the trailer by chance and this little video really managed to entertain me!..

The film gets off to a bit of a slow start.

I didn't think Matt's acting was particularly great either.

The film becomes very predictable, so you quickly know what is going to happen and what the climax will be.

This is also a bit disappointing, because before you know it you suddenly see the credits and you don't know what happens next.

Matt and Owen are being bullied; all of this is being filmed candidly by a third friend with whom they are also making their film.

However, this one never appears on screen, is not bullied, and is invisible to everyone?

Even in the final scene, everything is simply filmed along by this character who has absolutely 0.0% dialogue and apparently thinks everything is okay, and otherwise just finds everything normal.

No, it is not what it could have been.

There are better films of this type, such as "We Need to Talk About Kevin" or "Elephant".

A good film about two high school students making a film about being bullied at school. The line between documentary, film, and reality is constantly razor-thin here, resulting in an original film. Made with limited resources and clearly with a lot of enthusiasm. Despite the short running time, it sags a bit at times, but 3.5 stars are certainly appropriate here for this truly unique directorial debut by Matt Johnson.
