A female Don Juan confesses to a priest the consequences of her erotic initiatives: family father is compromised, musician commits suicide, third man's girlfriend turns out to be a lesbian. Then she seduces her confessor, but the revenge of her first victim is fatal.

Much more bearable than the two previous Vadim/Bardot films I saw. But that didn't take much. Bardot as a mean vamp is at least less irritating than the horny child-woman, even though this film isn't exactly bursting with talent either. But it all has a certain beautiful pomposity about it and is quite pleasantly mysterious. Watchable, and that is saying a lot.

With a soundtrack more suited for a funeral service, the film gets off to a flop. The story is equally dramatic—what cringe-worthy drivel, and it all hangs together like loose sand. Perhaps the idea of Vadim might have had some merit in the distance, but this execution is simply far below par, and perhaps only palatable if you were actually mainly interested in BB's buttocks—but even so, that is only half a minute out of an hour and a half. And no, I didn't like that hand-washing scene at all either.
What still works is BB’s absurd apartment, and BB herself—perhaps at her most seductive here, although I believe I’ve said that quite often during my BB marathon. It remains a bit melancholic that she has starred in so few better films. From her side, I feel there could undoubtedly have been dozens of Mépris in her. But if they just don't come, then I can understand why she said at this point that this would be her last or second-to-last film.
